Cephalophyllum purpureo-album

Who would expect a plant with a name like that to have yellow flowers?  Supposedly the type plant had purple flowers with white (album) stamens, but yellow flowers with pale yellow (or white) stamens are much more common.
The plants occur mainly in the western Little Karoo, where they are locally abundant on sandy or gravelly soil and form sprawling mats up to 60 cm across. The leaves are terete (round in cross-section) and more slender than in other Cephalophyllums.
